Our Story

a homebrew kit and a dream, the seed for East Forty Brewing was planted in 2011.

David Mann started brewing and experimenting in 2011, quickly graduating to all-grain brewing and developing his own recipes in the first year.  In 2013, David and wife Amber served beer to the public for the first time at KC Nanobrew Festival.  Over the years, feedback from festival attendees, family, friends, and competition judges all confirmed the suspicion that David was making some really good beer!  At the end of 2016, with Amber's blessing, David decided to turn the dream into reality and started putting pen to paper crafting a business plan.  Over the course of 2017, David completed the business plan, found the perfect location in downtown Blue Springs, linked up with partner Matt Bryan, secured financing via an SBA-backed loan, closed on the loan and building on October 31st, and began the complete overhaul of the building that would last until the brewery opening in June 2018.  The rest of the team was assembled, and head brewer Nate Hoylman came on board, bringing more great recipes and experience into the brewery and taproom experience. Come on down and help us write the rest of the story!

Why "eastforty"

The name East Forty Brewing refers to our location in Blue Springs, out on the east side of the Kansas City metro, and is a dual reference to 40 Highway and 40 acres -- a common land parcel size in rural areas.  Blue Springs is perfectly situated on the outskirts of the busy and crowded core of the metro, where the city meets the country, and there is just a little more room for recreation and kicking back!
